This past February I spent 4 days in Nashville connecting with over 500 women bloggers at the Blissdom Conference. It was great meeting all types of women bloggers. One lady I met had a WordPress question and I was, of course, happy to try and answer her questions. She wanted to know how she could have a certain category of posts not displayed on her home page.
I immediately started telling her how to change the code in her theme to do this but I was met with a blank face. She had no experience with code at all and had no desire to learn either. Off the top of my head I did not know of a plugin that did this, but told her I would research it and let her know.
That night after eating a terrific dinner with her I went searching on Google for a plugin that would do what she wanted. I found the Front Page Excluded Categories plugin. The WordPress Plugin Directory says this about it:
A basic plugin that excludes posts in one or more categories from appearing on the front page. This is especially useful if you use an automated posting system, like the del.icio.us bookmark blog posting feature, that updates your blog regularly. In such a case, you can assign these posts to an excluded category so they don’t appear on the front page, but do appear in a category page.
I have never used this plugin as I have always just altered my theme code to do this. But I’m curious as to how well it works. Have you used it and did you like it?
